David L. Hawke '52
David L. Hawke died on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at his home in Rossmoor, Monroe Township, N.J. Mr. Hawke was born and raised in Tottenville, Staten Island, N.Y. He moved to Metuchen, N.J., in 1956, where he was active in Little League and Junior League Baseball programs and in the Metuchen Tennis Association.
Since 1996, he resided in the Rossmoor, Monroe Township, community, where he was a member of the Rossmoor Men's Golf Club, the Bocce Club, and the Rossmoor Writers Group. He was co-editor of the magazine, "The Rossmoor Fox," and in 2001 edited and published an anthology of the group's works under the same title.
Mr. Hawke, an engineering materials specialist, worked for 38 years with NL Industries, selecting materials of construction for chemical and metallurgical plants. Following retirement from NL, he worked as a technical consultant to producers of magnesium metal, most recently, Norsk Hydro Magnesium Division. He was the author of several technical papers on the use of magnesium die-castings for weight reduction in automotive applications.
He was a cum laude graduate of Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, earning a Central Europe Campaign Ribbon.
